MINING
Mining at Gisande involves a comprehensive approach to mineral extraction, processing, and management, with a focus on sustainability, environmental stewardship, and community engagement. Through its mining activities, Gisande contributes to the economic development of Rwanda while striving to minimize environmental impact and uphold social responsibility standards.

Site Selection and Exploration
Gisande conducts extensive geological surveys and exploration activities to identify potential mining sites rich in mineral deposits. These sites are strategically selected based on geological data, mineral resource assessments, and accessibility.
Mining Operations
Once suitable mining sites are identified, Gisande implements mining operations using appropriate methods such as open-pit mining, underground mining, or artisanal mining, depending on the geological characteristics and ore deposit types.
Mining activities involve the excavation and removal of ore-bearing materials from the earth’s surface or underground, employing heavy machinery, equipment, and skilled labor to extract mineral ores efficiently.
Mineral Processing
After extraction, the mineral ores are transported to processing plants operated by Gisande or its subsidiaries. These processing facilities are equipped with crushing, grinding, and beneficiation equipment to extract valuable minerals from the ore and prepare them for further refining or sale.
Mineral processing techniques may include crushing and grinding to liberate the minerals from the ore matrix, gravity separation, flotation, and magnetic separation to concentrate the valuable minerals, and dewatering and drying to produce final mineral concentrates.
Waste Management
Gisande implements waste management practices to handle and dispose of mining waste responsibly. This includes segregating and storing waste materials, such as overburden and tailings, in designated areas to minimize environmental impact and comply with regulatory requirements.
Waste management efforts also involve implementing measures for land reclamation, environmental rehabilitation, and ecosystem restoration to mitigate the ecological footprint of mining activities.
Environmental and Social Responsibility
Gisande is committed to conducting mining operations in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. The company adheres to strict environmental regulations and standards, implements sustainable mining practices, and engages with local communities and stakeholders to address their concerns, promote socio-economic development, and ensure the well-being of affected populations.
Safety and Compliance
Gisande prioritizes the safety and health of its workforce by implementing stringent safety protocols, providing training on safe mining practices, and maintaining a culture of safety awareness and compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
